A two days workshop was conducted on PECS and RPM by Akila Vaidhyanath at Hotel Sealord, Ernakulam on 6th and 7th of October 2017.
Autism Pride Day
Autism Pride Day, June 18th , was celebrated at Changampuzha Park, Edapally. The main attraction of the event was honoring Miss Sherin Mary Zacharia, winner of autism Marvek Award- organized by Nationat Trust and AIIMS. Parental classes were taken by Mrs Indulekha D and Ramya Durairaj. Cultural programs by our kids added colors to the function.
6 Days Camp
A six day camp for the parents and care givers of children with autism at AELI hills Aluva. Sessions include training by Dr C P Aboobacker and Play therapy by National Association of Play Therapy.
Autism Awareness Day Celebrations -2017
World autism awareness day was fabulously celebrated at Oberon Mall, on the eve of April 2.The function was inaugurated by Mr Hibi Eden , MLA. Mrs Jessy Peter , Kalamassery municipal chairperson launched the "Super siblings" group. Musical programs by Pooja, Abhiram and Pradhyunn Ravi added colors to the function. Dr Maria Grace Teresa, Speech pathologist , Aster medicity and Dr S D Singh, KIMS hospital, addressed the gathering. Children with outstanding achievements were honored. Various competitions for kids were held. The function ended with a wonderful ganamela and dinner.
Autism Pride Day celebrations
Autism club, Ernakulam celebrated the Autism Pride Day in a very outstanding manner. The function was inaugurated by Kalamassery municipal chairperson Smt Jessy Peter. Blogs of two of our young writers, Jithin and Chandrashekar were released. Jithin's blog:- "Ente Kochu Kavithakal" ( www.jithinthepoet.blogspot.in ). Chandrashekar's blog: - "Ente nalla chinthakal" ( www.chandrashekard.blogspot.in ) . Mrs Sangeetha John talked about how blog writing has changed her daughter Sherin's life. Mrs Seema Lal, one of the founding member of "Together We Can - an online community for the justice of special kids" , talked on the importance of inclusive education. Various cultural programs by our kids were the main highlights.
World Autism Awareness Day Fuction - 2016
Autism club, Ernakulam celebrated the world Autism Awareness Aay in a very splendid manner. The function was inaugurated by Deputy Mayor Sri T J Vinod. He also launched the news letter "Autism voice" . Director Sri Sidhique released our website www.autismclubkerala.com. Very informative classes by experts were conducted. Coloring contest and Photography contest were enjoyed by kids. There was a food stall with yummy snacks prepared by our children. The cultural programs by our kids were the highlights of the show.
One day parental training
Autism club, Ernakulam conducted a one day parental training by Dr C P Aboobacker on April 30th, 2016. The session was attended by parents, grandparents, and professionals from various fields who provide services to people with autism. Various aspects of autism and the effective strategies to manage children with autism were discussed.
Workshop on "Spiritual Dimension of Autism"
Autism society is blessed with savants, who can read minds and write about things which they have never studied. Dr. C P Aboobacker, who has done a detailed study on this subject, shared his understanding with parents and he explains these behaviors scientifically. The sessions were done in two parts, first on December 21st, 2015 and the second on January 24th, 2016 at Ernakulam.
Workshop on "Using iPad/Tablet for special education"
Members of autism club,Ernakulam not only take classes among themselves, but visit other parts of Kerala conducting informative workshops on several topics. Such a workshop was conducted on February 16th , at Tirur in association with "Pulari", an organization for the empowerment of parents of special children.
Active participation in vision sharing workshop by SID
Autism club was well prepared for the vision sharing workshop by SID( State Initiative on Disabilities). We collected ideas from the group members and 5 members represented the club. The points we submitted were highly appreciated.
Brain Gym Workshop
Brain gym is a set of exercises which stimulates all parts of the brain. Parents have experienced that practicing it on regular basis gives a very good and quick result. Autism Club conducted two sessions on "Brain Gym" - in October 17th 2015 and December 7th 2015. These classes were done by Mrs Deepthi Biju at Darul Uloom school, Pullepady, Ernakulam North.
Exhibitions and sale
We never miss any opportunity of exhibiting the creations of our children. Books of our little children are a major attraction to all.
How AAC applications support our children
Augmentative and Alternative Communication applications have played a very important part in the lives of several non-verbal children and children with difficulties in communication. Autism Club, Ernakulam conducted a session on AAC, where Mrs Sangeetha John, explained how we can fully use the AAC systems available effectively. She demonstrated the various applications in detail and how it helped her daughter Sherin, who is a wonderful writer. At this event, we honoured Master Niranjan and Miss Sherin for their brilliant writings.
Workshop by Dr Jagathy Nair
Autism club Ernakulam conducted a 1 day workshop by Dr Jagathy Nair on behaviour and communication aspects of autism. Dr Jagathy Nair is working as special educator at Royal Palm School in Palm Beach County, Florida. The class was very useful to both parents and professionals.
Seminar on Autism and Dyslexia
Autism Club, Ernakulam conducted a 5 days seminar on autism and dyslexia lead by Dr. C. P Aboobacker. The seminar was inaugurated by Deputy Mayor Smt B Bhadra on Dec 1st, 2014. At this event the book entitled "222 tips for embracing autism" by Deepthi Biju was launched by Dr. C. P Aboobacker by handing over the first copy to Smt B. Bhadra. A beautiful painting by our little artist, Antony Eby Biju, was presented to Smt B. Bhadra.
10 days parental training
Dr C P Aboobaker conducted 10 days parental training, which led to the formation of Autism Club , Ernakulam. The training started on April 22nd, 2013. The venue was St Augustine’s UP school, Thykoodam,Vyttila. The training aimed at dealing with the speech issues, socialization issues, hyperactivity, learning disability, challenging behaviors, etc in children with autism. It was a life changing experience for many families. The classes were a guiding torch to those who were roaming in depression and darkness.
Fun Time
Other than classes and workshops, we do share the sweetness of the little happy moments in our lives.
